The Garden Spring Clean Checklist
Spring has been a late bloomer this year, so if you’re late to cleaning your garden then do not panic, there is still time to get everything done before the sun shines. Follow our great spring-cleaning check list and have your patio/decking/lawn ready for use in the summer.
Trim the Shrubs and Tidy
Pruning your shrubs in the spring will encourage growth in all of your favourite plants throughout the summer. Make sure you pull out any weeds that have grown over the winter, mow the lawn, rake away any leaves or dirt that are where they shouldn’t be and just generally give the garden a spruce up.
De-Grime the Patio or Decking
Remove all the clutter and furniture, ready for a deep clean in this area. Make sure all debris, plant pots or other items have been cleared from the space, getting rid of rubbish and putting items that will be returning to this space in a safe area.
Jet wash the entire area and tackle any tough stains with suitable treatment. For decking you may require a touch up with a protection paint. Once the area is dry you can replace the pots and other items you removed.
Clean Off Outdoor Furniture
Cleaning your outdoor furniture is a great way to make sure your whole garden looks fresh and clean. Whilst some furniture, such as rattan, will require minimal cleaning (simply a wipe down to remove any dirt or leaves) other materials like wood or fabric may require more extensive cleaning. Most outdoor fabric can be jet washed but this may take a long time to dry, so try and pick a sunny weekend. Wooden garden furniture may require further treatment with protective paints.
Additionally, where appropriate, spruce up your cushions by machine washing the cushion covers on a low temperature. Never tumble dry the covers as they will shrink. Cleaning the cushions covers will complete the fresh look for your furniture and make it look brand new.
Add a Splash of Colour
As it is spring, flowers should be beginning to bloom in the garden, but adding a splash of colour yourself will help it feel more summery. This could mean repainting fences or sheds to help them look fresh and colourful or be something as simple as adding bright scatter cushions to your furniture.
Just because you’re outdoors does not mean you can’t accessorise like you would your indoor space. From outdoor rugs, to solar lighting, to gas fire pits, to water features, to ice buckets and statues, you can go as big or as small as you like on outdoor décor.
When decorating your outdoor space don’t forget to ensure you choose weatherproof items that are suitable for outdoor use.
