2020 has been a crazy year, and with new social distancing rules in place that mean many of us can only meet friends and family outside but with winter on the way, it can be hard to know what to do in these uncertain times. Here, we’ve revealed our top tips for entertaining outside throughout the winter, so that you can still spend that quality time with loved ones in a safe way.

Winter blues are often a real damaging aspect to a person’s mental health and being told we can’t see our loved ones in the comfort of our home is not likely to help matters. Here at Zebrano, we have previously discussed how being outdoors and activities like gardening can often help improve a person’s mental health.

So, with the only option of seeing our loved ones being outdoors, why not make your garden the perfect place for entertaining – even as the weather gets colder? Follow our top tips on how to do just this, here:

Outdoor Pergola

Offer Shelter

Even though you’re outdoors you will need some shelter in case the weather changes and the heavens open up. We believe that the most effective way to do this is to add a pergola or an awning to your space. These permanent structures allow you to open and close the sheltered area as necessary.

However, if you don’t have the space or budget for one of these, a large parasol can act as a giant umbrella, keeping the rain off of your area and ensuring you can still stay outdoors.

Light a Fire

The most important aspect of being outdoors in the winter is finding a way to keep warm. The best way to do this is with one of our gas firepit tables. These firepit tables allow you to control the heat setting with ease and also don’t leave you covered in a horrible smoky smell like a log or coal burner would.

Whether you opt for a smaller coffee table with firepit or a larger full-sized table complete with matching seating area, the effects are the same – you and your guests will be nice and warm, allowing you to stay outdoors for longer.

Turn Your Garden into an Outdoor Room

By adding items like an outdoor rug, some cosy blankets and a few cushions, you can transform your garden from just an outdoor space into a stunning outdoor room that feels warm and inviting. These extra pieces will not only look inviting but will naturally add an extra layer of warmth for you and your guests to enjoy.

Outdoor Lighting

The nights draw in far quicker in the winter and therefore you will want to add some outdoor lighting in order to see what you are doing. Solar lighting is not ideal for winter months as there is not enough sunshine to power them. However, a great alternative is adding Christmas lights to your back garden as these are often designed for outdoor use and light up your space just as well.

Patio Heaters

Alternatively, another great way to light your outdoor space and also generate some much-needed heat, is to add a patio heater to your garden. Many patio heaters not only generate heat but also double up as an outdoor light – killing two birds with one stone.

Hot Food & Drink

Another great way to keep warm is to provide your guests with warm food and drink. The perfect warm drink for entertaining in the winter is definitely mulled wine! Or hot chocolate is great for the kids. Hot pastries and finger foods work well for eating but if you want to go the whole hog, soups and even a hog roast are perfect. We even love the idea of a cheese or chocolate fondue.

However you decide to create your perfect outdoor space for entertaining throughout winter, we hope you remain safe and well.
