Winter is a tricky time for keeping your garden furniture clean and tidy, especially your garden furniture cushions, here we’ve outlined our top tips for keeping your garden furniture cushions fresh.

Firstly, we will start by saying that we always recommend that garden furniture cushions are stored indoors throughout the winter and when your furniture is not in use in the summer. This is because the cushions are not fully weatherproof and may experience damage if left outside and exposed to heavy rain, frost and snow.

Garden Furniture Cushions

The garden furniture cushions are stain resistant and water resistant but not waterproof. Therefore, if left outside they may suffer irreparable damage. However, if you are still using your furniture and happen to spill something or perhaps you forgot to take your cushions in one evening there are plenty of things you can do to help clean the cushions.

For cushions that have experienced spillages or mess from bird droppings can be cleaned easily by brushing off any loose dirt and cleaning with a damp sponge or soft bristle brush. For tougher stains like chocolate or fizzy drink create a cleaning solution of 1:16 mild detergent to lukewarm water and use a sponge or soft bristle brush to soak the cleaning solution into the fabric. Once the solution has soaked in, rinse with water to remove any soapy residue and allow the fabric to air dry.

Cushion Storage Box

If your cushions have been mistakenly left outside and have become extremely dirty or experienced some water damage, you may be able to reverse some of the damage by machine washing the cushion covers. Our cushion covers are removeable and can be machine washed at 30°C. Once washed DO NOT tumble dry the cushion covers or they will shrink, simply allow the covers to air dry and then put them back on the cushions.

If you have no where to store your cushions to keep them safe and clean throughout the winter months, then we recommend a cushion storage box or storage bag. Our storage bags should be kept indoors with the cushions inside, to create a tidy place with an added layer of protection for the cushions. Our storage boxes have weatherproof lining built in which should keep the cushions stain-free throughout the winter, although some water may reach the cushions in a heavy downpour.
